Valve has taken a major step toward supporting its modding community by releasing official CAD files for the Steam Controller and its companion Puck accessory.
In a new announcement shared via the Steam Hardware community, the company confirmed that users can now download detailed design files for the external shells of both devices. These files are available under a Creative Commons license, opening the door for enthusiasts, designers, and makers to freely modify and create custom accessories.
The release includes both STP and STL formats for each device, making them compatible with a wide range of 3D modeling and printing tools. Valve also provided engineering drawings that highlight critical features and defined exclusion zones—ensuring that custom designs won’t interfere with essential hardware components.
This move signals a strong push from Valve toward community-driven hardware innovation. By giving users access to official design specifications, the company is effectively encouraging the creation of personalized shells, ergonomic tweaks, and entirely new accessory ecosystems for the Steam Controller.
